Navigating the Media Landscape: Addressing News and Fake News in the Wake of War in Ukraine

RESECO, with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, organized a workshop on “Navigating the Media Landscape: Addressing News and Fake News in the Wake of War in Ukraine” on September 20, 2022.

The discussion was opened by Dr Tobias Ruettershoff, acting head of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Serbia and Montenegro office, with the key question of how the “new normal” in the context of the war in Ukraine will shape the future of media.

Our special panelist from Ukraine, Natalija Zubar, a journalist from the Maidan Monitoring Information Center in Kharkiv, presented the role of media in Ukraine and the challenges faced by journalists and war correspondents in this war.

The comprehensive discussion about the diverse media arena in Serbia and its challenges due to the war in Ukraine was initiated by Milica Kulic, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Belgrade, Suzana Grubješic, Deputy Chairman of the Center for Foreign Policy in Belgrade, and Mijat Lakicevic, journalist and deputy editor-in-chief of the weekly “Novi Magazin”.

This workshop aimed to address the impact of the war in Ukraine on the media arena, both in Ukraine and in Serbia, and the challenges faced by journalists and the media industry. The discussions provided a comprehensive overview of the situation and offered insights into the future of media in the context of the ongoing conflict.
