RESECO, with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, organized a conference titled “Towards an Agreement between Belgrade and Pristina” as part of the dialogue program “European Conversations” from March 23 to 25, 2023 in Vrnjačka Banja.
The conflict in Ukraine has influenced the perception of security in the Western Balkans, causing EU concerns regarding the relationship between Belgrade and Pristina. Supported by five key Western countries, the dialogue between the two sides offers hope for reaching a compromise solution that will enable lasting peace and provide a credible perspective for EU accession. However, the normalization of relations cannot be reduced to just a formal document that will bring changes on the ground. Much broader social efforts are needed, especially by civil society and the academic community, to create a favorable atmosphere for achieving and implementing a potential agreement.
The conference consisted of six panels dedicated to important aspects of the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, discussed by prominent experts from both societies (EU integration, roadmap for the implementation of the agreement, the situation in northern Kosovo, dealing with the past, security situation, cultural heritage issues, etc.).
