RESECO with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, organized a conference on “National Identities as Factors of Culture and Security Development in the Western Balkans”. The conference was held on October 20, 2021 and was opened by Tobias Flessenkemper, Head of Office of the Council of Europe, Republic of Serbia, and Norbert Beckmann-Dierkes, Director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s Representation, Serbia and Montenegro.
The speakers discussed the challenges faced by members of national minorities and the possibilities for improving their position in the Republic of Serbia. The conference was attended by Robert Sepi, Legal Adviser for the Rights of National Minorities, Belgrade, Ragmi Mustafi, President of the National Council of the Albanian National Minority, Jasmina Curić, President of the National Council of the Bosniak National Minority, Aleksandar Popov, Director of the Center for Regionalism, Novi Sad, Hajna Jenő, President of the National Council of the Hungarian National Minority, Ragmi Mustafi, Representative of the National Council of the Roma National Minority and Darko Baštovanović, Representative of the National Council of the Croatian National Minority.
The aim of the conference was to explore the role of national identities in the development of culture and security in the Western Balkans and to identify potential solutions to the challenges faced by national minorities in the region.
